DESERT FLOWER

I’m in Palm Springs!  And ZOMG it’s hot up in hurrrr!  Why did I pick Palm Springs when it’s NOT Coachella?  A lot of it had a lot to do with how last minute this trip was.  Also why did we even book this trip?  Well, I’m so glad you asked (theoretically).  The Hubster and I, (if you haven’t already picked up on it by my Instagram, which by the way, maybe you should follow me on Instagram… hehe..) are celebrating our 5 year wedding anniversary!  I knew I wanted to go on a trip to celebrate but with work being so nasty and gross lately, I had very little time to plan.  Originally I had thought we should go out of the country but again, the little time to plan made this difficult.  Then I somehow got this wacky idea of going on a trip and bringing our little Wrigleyboo!  Why not celebrate our 5 year anniversary by going on our very first family trip?!  When I started thinking about where I could bring the little nugget, I immediately gravitated towards the west coast.  Chicago has been so insane-balls with the weather that I just wanted to run away somewhere that had consistency and sunshine.  Where better than good ol’ Cali-for-nah-yey!  I was really set on renting a house in Malibu but gaaaattdamn them houses are mondo expensive.  So I started just playing around with the idea of LA.  We have been there multiple times so it would be familiar and easy for us to bring our pup.  This was already a week before our scheduled vacation start date so I had very little options to play with.  I started searching around for a pet friendly hotel and came across the Ace Hotel in LA which looked super hip and fun.  It was from their site that I saw the Palm Springs location.  The hotel looked so quirky and vintage that I couldn’t help myself.  I decided to go with Palm Springs and explore the desert sun.  So here we are.  So far it has been a relaxing vacation indeed.  Alternating activities of sleep, eat, drink, pool.  Remix and repeat until sun down.  The Ace Hotel is every bit as fun as I thought it would be.  Very little reason to even venture away from the grounds.  The pool a.k.a. the “swim club” is a constant party.  There are always a mix of people mingling in the waters afloat a myriad of fun floaties!  Great indy music blasting through the speakers from morning to night.  And the food, omg Kings Highway.  Every time I wanted to go try something else in the area, I would think about the menu and say… naaaah.. let’s just eat here at the hotel.  I have yet to try a dish that is NOT drool-worthy.  Which automatically makes me sad because I know I will go home and crave the food.  Their Veggie Burger is insane.  I love the creative mix of beets and black bean that makes up the patty.  Along with the roasted poblano peppers, arugula, red onion, and avocado smear… it is sure to please both vegetarians and carnivores alike!  One thing I love about the restaurant is you can tell they really care about using local produce.  Everything tastes so fresh and totally farm to table.  I love how Californians care about this stuff without charging me an arm and a leg for it.  My amazing and super fresh veggie burger with fries is only $10!  Obsessed!  I already had it twice.  We are having a great time recharging our batteries under the desert sun and we both are about 15 shades darker.  And did I mention this insane mountain view.  These photos were taken only a few blocks away from our hotel.  The mountains look close enough to touch as they tower into the sky.  I love watching the sun set behind the mountain tops as that is pretty much the nightly view from the Ace Hotel pool.  There are parts that look so desolate and isolated that you could feel like you are the only person around for miles.  So far it’s been a great way to celebrate our anniversary and it’s been all the more amazing with our little puperoo.  Thank you to the Ace Hotel for all the love and great times these past few days!  More photos to come soon!
